DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars top goal scorers got major help on Friday night. Seven different Stars scored in a 7-3 victory over the Nashville Predators. Tyler Seguin or Jamie Benn was not among them. Each player had an assist. Colton Sceviour, Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt each had a goal and an assist. Alex Goligoski had three assists, tying his career high. Going into the game, Seguin had 75 points and Benn 69. Dallas third-highest scorer was Goligoski, with 33. Vernon Fiddler, whose first-period goal was his fifth this season, said: "Its nice to get some depth scoring. At the end of the day, weve got to continue to do that. The big guns need some help with that, and it takes a little bit of pressure off of them." Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen allowed three goals on 28 shots. Pekka Rinne had 22 saves. After Nashville pulled within 5-3 in the third period on Eric Nystroms goal, Valeri Nichushkin and Cody Eakin scored 9 seconds apart for a 7-3 edge. Nichushkins unassisted goal went off Predators defenceman Shea Webers stick. "We tipped two in our own net," Weber said. "They got one off the skate, and then they scored off the rush. They got a little bit of everything, and it just wasnt good enough for us." Thats why Nashville coach Barry Trotz didnt consider pulling Rinne. "Not really, even when they got six and seven. Six and seven were deflected. There was nothing you could do about it." Stars coach Lindy Ruff, who preaches putting pucks on the net, was pleased about the four goals that deflected off teammates sticks or bodies. "We got some good breaks. We had a couple put in by their defencemen. We got enough pucks going to the net, and got rewarded for it." Goals by Garbutt and Fiddler gave the Stars a 2-0 lead after one period. Sceviour, Alex Chiasson and Daley scored in the second period that ended with a 5-2 advantage for Dallas. The Predators Patric Hornqvist and Michael Del Zotto also scored in the second. The victory improved Dallas playoff hopes. The Stars have 81 points -- three behind Phoenix, which has the Western Conferences last playoff position. The Stars have nine games remaining, including a game Saturday at St. Louis. Phoenix has eight to play. The game started well for the Stars against Nashville, which was coming off a 6-1 win over Buffalo on Thursday. "They looked fresh," Trotz said. "They jumped on us. I dont know how many pucks we just got it to the red line and just turned it over and they transitioned on us, and its hard to play that way. Youre spending your energy in the wrong area." Garbutt gave Dallas a 1-0 lead when he tipped Antoine Roussels pass from the right corner past Rinne. The Stars took a 2-0 lead on a 2-on-1 rush at 14:05 of the first. As a defender slid to the ice attempting to block a shot, Sceviour passed across to Fiddler on the right side, and he drilled a snap shot into the net. Dallas outshot the Predators 9-5 in the first period. Nashvilles best chance to score came on the only shot during the power play, when Craig Smiths shot from the top of the left circle went off Lehtonens pads. Goligoski and Daley, Fridays starting defensive pair, each finished with plus-5 ratings. Ruff said: "Thats a good night when youre plus-5 on the score sheet. I think youve seen by ice times these last 30-40 games how much we think of that pair and how much difference they can make. They made some real good plays for us." Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves to backstop the Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Flames, handing Calgary its team record sixth consecutive home regulation loss. Connor Carrick Jersey . With the Pirates in the thick of the race in the NL Central, the timing couldnt be better. Liriano struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings to win consecutive starts for the first time this season and Pittsburgh beat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Tuesday night. http://www.leafsauthority.com/authentic ... fs-jersey/. Specifically, thumbs up to the Canadian-based teams in the NHL, or at least most of them. Ben Smith Jersey . Detroits powerful offence made that unnecessary. Scherzer allowed two hits and struck out seven, and the Tigers backed their star right-hander with three early homers in an 8-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night. Auston Matthews Jersey . Hoffman, the former star closer, will evaluate and help co-ordinate all pitchers at Double-A, Triple-A and the big league team. Byrnes says Hoffman "will be a key part of finishing the development of our younger pitchers. As it should be, No. 15 in the No. 1 spot for the Calgary Stampeders when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at McMahon Stadium Sunday in the Western Final. Head Coach John Hufnagel says he looked at Kevin Glenns body of work over the course of the season where the 13-year-veteran went 10-3 as a starter before deciding on him as the starter. Well coach Huff is not going to get an argument from me. I wrote several weeks ago that he needed to make that statement. I felt at the time that over the course Kevins natural progression, and the way he seamlessly led the team up to that point, it was necessary for the annotation, so to speak! Why? Well as a season unfolds situations tend to define athletes; and games, win or lose, mold teams. Glenn had led and played so well throughout the season, he quietly, properly, and wiley earned the title, “starting quarterback.” Over the last two seasons much has been said, written, and documented about the pecking order and respect factor with the Fab Three, the three amigos, the three - count it - three legitimate starters, Glenn, Drew Tate and Bo Levi Mitchell. Hell, even the best in the business Brian Williams did a feature piece on the three outstanding quarterbacks and their unique chemistry and certainly their abilities, as seen on CFL on TSN. These three quarterbacks have respect for one another but sometimes, and this is one of those times, depth charts do change. I can guarantee you this, it could have been any one of these capable quarterbacks doing the same thing Kevin has inadvertently done: snatch the starting spot in an instant. Okay, enough said about that. Water undder the bridge at this point.dddddddddddd Calgary is positioned exceptionally well with such a stable of game experienced, champing at the bit, ready to plug and play quarterbacks. No matter who is behind centre against the Roughriders, getting the leagues leading running back Jon Cornish a minimum of 20 touches will be critical to their success. The importance of Cornish and their No. 1 rushing offence in the CFL, which averages 141.5 yards per game, is magnified against the Riders. If Calgary can limit their giveaways, a league-low 27 in the regular season, play ball control, and dominate the LOS (Line of Scrimmage), they have a real shot at moving on and playing another week. This is even more important as the team will be without their leading receiver, Marquay McDaniel. McDaniel was lost to an ankle injury during the last week of the regular season. Remember, Nik Lewis has been missing since week 7 and Glenn leaned heavily on his favorite target McDaniel in Lewis absence. Replacing that offensive firepower will have to be done by committee. Mo Price, Joe West, Jabari Arthur, newcomer Joe Fuller, Anthony Parker, Brad Sinopoli, and whoever else is healthy enough to hall in passes. So KG knows what he needs to do and thats hand the ball to No. 9 early and often! A concentrated effort to establish the run will effectively open up a young and talented - but relatively inexperienced in the playoffs - receiving corp. Im betting KG plays well, but in the spirit of emptying your chambers at the OK Corral, we will see all three of Calgarys talented gunslingers in some capacity in this Western Final showdown.
